Great Horned Owl

Just walking past an open window and I heard an adult Great Horned Owl calling nearby. Awesome.

Carolina Wren and updates

October 17th, 2010

I was just watching a Carolina Wren that was having a stare-down with its reflection at the feeder cam. I’ll bet it was a tie. It has been super busy recently and I had not been filling the feeders. I filled everything up Saturday and I hope things are back to normal around here. TheĀ  hummingbirds have not been seen in a week or two. Just in case, I will still keep at least one hummingbird feeder out for a while longer. Also, I am contemplating moving the feeder cam location. A better location so I can squirrel proof the feeder and not have to add the squirrel repellent to the seed would be nice.

Female Rose-breasted Grosbeak

October 3rd, 2010

We had had almost nothing show up the spring migration. The hummingbirds were about the only exception to that. Even the hummingbird migration was lighter than previous years. Today I saw the first migrant pass through for fall migration (again, other than the hummingbirds). My wife and I were sitting at the table having breakfast and a female Rose-breasted Grosbeak landed on the deck feeder. Wonderful to see her.
