Good and bad news to report today. While I was up in the office, I heard a bird hit the window. Later, when I was able to take a look, I found a dead bird on the front porch. I carried the Peterson Field Guide outside to discover that it was an Ovenbird. They winter in our area. Sad.

The White-tailed Deer have returned to the cracked corn tray after what seemed like a long absence. Other than the aforementioned casualty, I have not seen any new arrivals since the female Rose-breasted Grosbeak I posted about last. The hummingbirds disappeared within the first few days of October. I am keeping a couple of feeders up though, just in case. Later, Jim
